Regional Municipality of Durham

The Regional Municipality of Durham encompasses eight Area Municipalities (The Cities of Oshawa and Pickering, the Towns of Ajax and Whitby, the Municipality of Clarington, and the Townships of Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge). Regional municipal services include water supply, waste management, transportation and facility management, with approximately 1,000 lane km of roads.

Durham Region lies immediately to the east of the City of Toronto within the Greater Toronto Area with a population of approximately 495,000. The rapidly growing population has led the Works Department to review roadway capacity alternatives in addition to expanding its road network. An ITS program has become, and will continue to be, an integral component of the transportation network.
