ITS Canada, in collaboration with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA Group), is hosting a two-part webinar series on Intelligent Transportation Standards. The first webinar will take place on October 15, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM ET, followed by the second webinar on November 5, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM ET.
Across Canada, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are helping industry and government meet their environmental, safety, and economic goals. However, the overarching systems framework needed to support the safe and effective use of the many discrete ITS technologies and practices is lagging behind. One way to address the need for a systems-level approach to intelligent transportation is through the use of standards. But what are standards, and how can they help?
During the first webinar, participants will hear from the Canadian Standards Association (CSA Group) about the inner workings of standards development and the variety of ways standards solutions can be shaped to meet the needs they are designed to address. Participants will also hear from Omar Choudhry, Chair of the CSA Connected and Automated Vehicle Technical Committee, about the launch of a CAV Infrastructure Code and other committee projects related to vehicle automation and intelligent transportation systems.
Geared toward transportation professionals in government and industry, this webinar is the first of two planned sessions focused on standards and ITS. During the second webinar on November 5, participants will hear from leading industry professionals about the benefits of applying standards in relation to the National ITS Architecture and how standards support interoperability, innovation, and the successful deployment of intelligent transportation solutions. Featured speakers will include Daniel Zhou, Arcadis, who will share industry perspectives and practical insights on the value of standards in advancing transportation systems and infrastructure across Canada.
The webinar series will culminate in an in-person ITS standards workshop during CSA Transit & ITS Week, taking place in Toronto from November 30 to December 4, 2026. Learn more about the event here.
